Tohatsu 25HP | MFS25CEL

The Tohatsu 25HP MFS25CEL pairs a 526cc three-cylinder four-stroke with a 20-inch shaft and electric starting, and it can be rigged with either a tiller or a remote mechanical control head. At 164 lbs, it sits in the middle of Tohatsu's 25hp line, light enough for many tiller boats yet set up for remote console control if you prefer it. Measuring for fit Transom height determines whether a 20-inch shaft is right for your boat: too short and the engine cavitates at speed, too long and it drags unnecessarily. Measure from the top of the transom straight down to the bottom of the hull before ordering, rather than relying on the boat's overall length as a guide. Rigging this as a remote-controlled engine Choosing remote control over a tiller means sourcing the control box, cable run, instrument gauges, a water/fuel separator, a propeller, and a fuel tank and line on their own, either by phone or through the parts counter; none of that rigging hardware comes bundled with the powerhead. What is bundled The engine itself ships with a circuit for charging a battery, a kit of basic service tools and spare parts, a tether-style kill switch on a lanyard, and the printed owner's manual. Tohatsu rates full throttle on this engine at 5000 to 6000 rpm, running EFI induction, with the familiar 5-year warranty included. Common questions Does it come with a remote control box and cables? No, those are not included and must be ordered separately. Can it be steered with a tiller instead? Yes, this engine is set up to accept either a tiller or a remote mechanical control. Will a car battery work for the charging circuit? A dedicated marine starting battery is the safer choice, sized to your boat's electrical needs.
