Mercury 9.9HP 9.9MXLH Outboard

The Mercury 9.9HP 9.9MXLH sits in the same 9.9 HP portable range as Mercury's other small outboards, built for small aluminum skiffs, soft-hull inflatables, jon boats, utility hulls, and sailboats that need dependable, quick-starting power rather than a heavy main engine. What this size is good at Mercury pitches its 9.9 HP line on fast acceleration out of the hole, minimal vibration at the helm, and throttle that answers immediately, with a focus on reliable starting and simple installation rather than top-end speed. That makes it a common choice for small boats where ease of handling matters more than horsepower. Before you order The MXLH designation points to a particular shaft and control configuration within this HP class, so check the shaft length, start type and steering layout in the specifications below before you order. Weigh your boat's rated horsepower range and transom height against this motor before buying, and check whether your existing fuel tank and lines are compatible or whether you will need Mercury's own. Common questions What is this motor good for? The listing names aluminum tiller, inflatable, jon, utility, and sail boats. Should I check the shaft length separately? Yes, confirm it against the spec table rather than the name alone. Is this a new or used motor? New, per the listing. How do I know the shaft will suit my boat? Measure from the top of your transom straight down to the bottom of the hull and compare that figure with the shaft listed in the specifications. A shaft that is too short lets the propeller ventilate; one that is too long adds drag.
