Instead of a carburetor or throttle-body EFI, this 383 runs BluePrint's self-learning multi-port fuel injection with its own ECU, wired with three connections for the main battery, switched 12-volt ignition, and fuel pump, while still making the familiar 436 horsepower and 443 pound-feet, with compression unchanged at 10.0:1. Ignition and fueling The ECU controls both ignition timing and fuel delivery and is calibrated specifically for this engine rather than relying on a generic self-learning tune the way some aftermarket systems do. A polished chrome air cleaner, a distributor, a harmonic balancer, and a single-plane machined aluminum intake are installed, along with polished chrome valve covers and a satin aluminum water pump. A polished front drive handles the alternator, the air-conditioning compressor, the steering pump, and the water pump together. Bottom end and heads The cast iron block here is high-strength, with four-bolt mains and a one-piece seal at the rear; clutch-linkage holes are already drilled and tapped at the factory. Inside, a cast steel crankshaft and hypereutectic pistons are externally balanced front and rear, under aluminum heads with 64cc chambers and 2.020-inch intake, 1.600-inch exhaust valves.
